Products

The high complexity of redox flow battery systems and the transition from individual projects to growing order volumes on the way to series production are leading many system integrators and plant manufacturers to focus more on the overall system.

This requires close collaboration with development partners and suppliers, where Schmalz offers integrators a unique combination of skills:

As a leading manufacturer of components and subsystems in vacuum-based automation and handling technology, Schmalz has in-depth expertise in the development of stacks for redox flow battery systems in the Energy Storage business unit.

The stack – the heart of the redox flow battery systems

Schmalz has established itself as an accomplished developer and manufacturer of redox flow battery stacks. The number of stacks determines the performance of a battery system. The materials used in the stack, the chemical resistance and the design offer great potential for optimizing performance and achieving economies of scale.

Schmalz therefore works consistently to optimise the performance, efficiency and reliability of its stacks and to offer customers the best stack on the market.

Stacks of Schmalz...

  • are optimized in the standard configuration for use in vanadium redox flow battery systems. All material, function and long-term tests are also carried out on the basis of this electrolyte.
  • have been continuously developed over the last five years. For example, the performance of the current stack generation has been doubled compared to the first generation, while the weight and installation space remain the same.
  • are also suitable for use with alternative electrolyte chemistries (including organic electrolytes) in addition to vanadium-sulfuric acid electrolyte, as the materials required for this can be adapted to customer-specific needs in our stacks.

Data sheet

Here you can request the data sheet of the stack. It contains the product specification as well as the charge and discharge curves for the standard confi guration.

Subsystems

Schmalz also supplies modular subsystems on request, i.e. stacks with corresponding peripherals for integration into a higher-level battery system.

Services

Through our many years of experience in the development and operation of stacks, we have built up extensive expertise in the design and operation of battery systems. If desired, we also offer training and engineering services.

The range of services includes:

  • Customized development and adaptation of stacks
  • Support in the dimensioning and selection of components of the plant periphery
  • Support in the development of suitable operating routines
