Labor

alt

In development, our interdisciplinary team has access to a fully equipped chemistry laboratory designed to meet the requirements of redox flow battery operation and stack development. The lab is equipped with a variety of test rigs for qualifying and testing of redox flow stacks and their components.

Material test field

The material testing field is the core area of our basic development. Our team works on the following topics, among others:

  • Ongoing testing of new materials for function and resistance to vanadium-sulfuric acid electrolyte on a laboratory scale of the current stack production.
  • Batch tests on components of the running stack to ensure continuous high quality for customers.
  • Close cooperation with renowned manufacturers of knitted materials in order to be able to test innovative materials already at the trial sample and prototype stage.

Test stands

Schmalz has various stack test stands available for testing prototypes and series products under realistic conditions. Our process engineers always have the safety and reliability of our products in mind when they work here.

For this...

  • they determine the performance data, charge and discharge curves and pump characteristics.
  • they develop operating routines and determine operating limits.
  • they comprehensively test each new generation of stacks to achieve a long service life of the system at the customer's site.

Production

Our industrial series production of redox flow battery stacks includes the following areas: Mechanical

  • manufacturing and plastics processing
  • Stack assembly cell
  • Pilot plant for the automated stacking process for scaling production

Batterie-Demonstrator

Our fully functional redox flow battery system with 50 kW/150 kWh is located on the company premises. The plant was planned and developed in-house with partners from the plant engineering sector. It is used for customer demonstrations and practical endurance tests of our stacks to investigate service life and operating behavior in the practical environment. The results from the endurance tests are continuously incorporated into our further developments.
